Today I'm thrilled to be a part of the promotional tour for Mortal Enchantment, the first book in a new fantasy young adult series by Stacey O'Neale. Stacey was nice enough to answer a few questions for me, and I have to say I cannot wait to get my hands on this book! As part of the tour, Stacey has also put together an awesome giveaway, so be sure and check out the bottom of the post for those details. I hope you all enjoy the interview and welcome to Supernatural Snark Stacey!
If you were to join Kalin in her elemental training sessions with Rowan, what would Rowan discover was your greatest strength and your greatest weakness?
I think he would see I am a big weenie. There isn't much I could do from a physical standpoint, but I think I'm pretty smart. I could probably talk my way out of some of the danger. I'd be a good council member versus a warrior. ;-p
Rowan has spent a great deal of time around us mortals. What’s one aspect of being human he’s most fascinated by?
Rowan gets lots of attention from the mortal females, so I'd say they are high on his list. He also really loves the music, entertainment, and food. He's a big fan of pizza, live rock concerts, and movies.
If you were to attend the Midwinter’s Ball with Kalin, what would your perfect dress look like?
It would be a black strapless ball gown with a beaded bodice. The skirt would be full with tons of layers of fabric. :)
Life in the elemental royal courts is clearly full of power struggles, secrets and betrayals. Despite all that, what are some things about court life Kalin finds beautifully different from life with her mortal mother?
Her ability to learn and practice her elemental magic is big for her. She was never trained to use it in the mortal world because her mother feared people would find out about her. For this reason, she's always felt like this huge piece of her has always been missing. In Avalon, she can be herself. She doesn't have to hide who she is or lie to anyone. It's all very freeing to her.
If you were born the daughter of a royal elemental family, which court would you most want to be a part of and what might your typical day be like?
I would choose the air court because I like the idea of controlling the weather and skies. I think I would spend my days flying around Avalon (assuming I have wings, of course). I'd also love to tour the forests of the woodland court. I've always been fascinated with faeries and would love to get to know some.
What’s one thing spending time with and training Kalin has taught Rowan about himself or the type of person he wants to be?
Rowan goes through quite a bit of changes in THE SHADOW PRINCE. By the time he finally meets Kalin in MORTAL ENCHANTMENT he's become very guarded, rough, and dangerous. More than anything, Kalin breaks through his walls which is no easy task. She helps him to find his way again. I hope she one day teaches him to love again. I think he deserves it.
If the Kalin at the end of MORTAL ENCHANTMENT could get a message/warning/piece of advice to the Kalin at the beginning, what would she most want to tell her?
I think she'd tell her to believe in herself and her power.

MORTAL ENCHANTMENT
MORTAL ENCHANTMENT
“Mortal Enchantment spins a unique twist on elemental mythology. This series is not to be missed.” –Jennifer L. Armentrout, #1 New York Times Bestselling Author
In Kalin Matthew's world, elementals control the forces of nature. They are divided into four courts: air, woodland, fire, and water. At sixteen she will leave the life she's built with her mortal mother. Kalin will move to Avalon to rule with her father—the elemental king of the air court. Along the way, she's attacked by a fire court assassin and saved by Rowan, a swoon-worthy elemental with a questionable past.
Worst of all, she learns her father is missing.
To rescue him, Kalin will have to work with a judgmental council and a system of courts too busy accusing each other of deceit to actually be able to help her. But, they aren’t her biggest challenge. With the Midwinter’s Ball only five days away, Kalin must take over her father’s duties, which includes shifting control of the elements—power Kalin has yet to realize.
As Rowan attempts to train her, a war looms between the four courts. If Kalin fails, her father will die and the courts will fall, but the betrayal she’s about to uncover may cost her even more...

THE SHADOW PRINCE
Every sacrifice has consequences.
Sixteen-year-old Rowan has spent most of his life living among the mortals—learning to control the element of fire, impatiently awaiting the day his vengeful mother, Queen Prisma, will abdicate her throne. When he finally returns to Avalon for his coronation, his mother insists he must first prove his loyalty to the court by completing a secret mission:
Kill Kalin, the half-human, half-elemental daughter of the air court king.
Willing to do anything to remove his mother from power, he agrees to sacrifice the halfling. He returns to the mortal world with his best friend, Marcus, determined to kill the princess. But as he devises a plan, he starts to question whether or not he's capable of completing such a heinous task. And what price he will pay if he refuses?

I am really excited about this series. I did read the prequel - which was fantastic and introduced me to a world full of unique paranormal creatures. Really love the concept!!
ReplyDeleteOh and Rowan - it's easy to fall for him and my heart was bleeding for him!

ReplyDeleteYAY! I hope you check out THE SHADOW PRINCE. :-)
DeleteI'd definitely go with water. No any specific reason but I like water.
ReplyDeleteFor me I think I would have to go with water. I'm an Aquarius and we are supposed to like water and it would be cool to be able to stop hurricanes.
ReplyDeleteI've seen the covers for both these titles around the blogosphere though I haven't heard much about either. I'm definitely curious, though, to meet these characters having read your interview, Jenny, so thanks for reminding me to add these to my TBR! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for adding them. :-)
DeleteI think I'd go for a full black gown with teeny crystals that sparkle when I move. The ball sounds wonderful! Not sure what court I'd choose. The woodland court sounds beautiful and peaceful...but air sounds like fun!
