A Need So Beautiful: Excerpt
As part of the promotional tour through Teen Book Scene, I'm very excited today to present to you a deleted scene from Suzanne Young's upcoming paranormal young adult release A Need So Beautiful. This title releases on June 21st from Balzer + Bray, so be sure and mark your calendars! The angel theme in young adult fiction is really starting to grow on me, so I'm eager to get my hands on this one. Enjoy!
“I wish I could help you,” Onika says, picking at the fingers of her black gloves.
I jump, startled. “What are you doing here?”
“Observing. Your friend looks awfully sick, love. Too bad you can’t help her.”
“Can you help?”
“No. But I can bet money that if you leave her now and she dies, you’ll never forgive yourself.” She smiles. “Go with her, Charlotte. The Need will wait for you, right?”
“I can’t,” I say, clutching my stomach. “It’s too painful.”
“Don’t you think you’re strong enough?”
And it’s then that I wonder if I am.
A NEED SO BEAUTIFUL (from Goodreads):
We all want to be remembered. Charlotte's destiny is to be Forgotten...
Charlotte’s best friend thinks Charlotte might be psychic. Her boyfriend thinks she’s cheating on him. But Charlotte knows what’s really wrong: She is one of the Forgotten, a kind of angel on earth, who feels the Need—a powerful, uncontrollable draw to help someone, usually a stranger.
But Charlotte never wanted this responsibility. What she wants is to help her best friend, whose life is spiraling out of control. She wants to lie in her boyfriend's arms forever. But as the Need grows stronger, it begins to take a dangerous toll on Charlotte. And who she was, is, and will become--her mark on this earth, her very existence--is in jeopardy of disappearing completely.
Charlotte will be forced to choose: Should she embrace her fate as a Forgotten, a fate that promises to rip her from the lives of those she loves forever? Or is she willing to fight against her destiny--no matter how dark the consequences.
Okay, who's excited? This girl. For more information on Suzanne and A Need So Beautiful, you can find her here:

What a chilling excerpt! I'm really curious to read more about Charlotte's ability. June 21st can't come soon enough! :)
ReplyDeleteTotally excited too.. I see this book all over the bloggyworld and now it finally hit me... Plus, the cover looks so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love the title :)
ReplyDeleteOh very interesting excerpt. Can't wait to read this!
ReplyDeleteLove this excerpt! Thanks for sharing it with us. I can't wait to get my hands on a copy. I love the cover too!
ReplyDeleteLove the premise of this book - I can't wait to read it! :)
ReplyDeleteSounds exciting and angsty. Definitely has an interesting plot. Although I hate it when people use the term of endearment "love." I wanted to choke Edward Cullen every time her referred to Bella as "love," and now I hate when anyone does it.
ReplyDeleteOMG SO PUMPED after reading this! I can't wait to read it.
ReplyDeleteThis Week’s Teaser Tuesday: Something from the Nightside
Ooh, intriguing excerpt! Makes it sound v. creepy -- right up my alley! Think I'm gonna have to check it out.
ReplyDeleteHappy Reading!
Mary @ Book Swarm
Lauren - I'm really excited to learn more about it too. It seems like an interesting twist on angels:)
ReplyDeleteDanny - Can't wait for this one! And I'm a sucker for a pretty cover:)
Blodeuedd - It's kind of a haunting title:)
Nic - Me either!
Christina - You're welcome, it's made me all the more interested to read this one.
Leanna - Me too! I'm becoming much more interested in angel stories lately:)
Alison - Haha, I'm usually not an endearment person in life, but I don't mind them in books for whatever reason. If the husband ever called me "love" or "baby" I might die of laughter.
Carissa - ME EITHER!
Mary - Please do, come join the waiting list like the rest of us counting down the days to the 21st:)
Hmmmm, not usually into the angel books, but this one sounds intriging - something about it reminds me of The Last Unicorn, when she has to choose and also forget - and also learns about regret. Lovely post!
ReplyDeleteI have had my eye on this one for a while despite the fact that I am not a huge angel fan. I am hoping this one ends up surprising me. Thanks for the excerpt.
ReplyDeleteI CANNOT wait for this one!!! I have it on preorder. It sounds soooo good! Thank you for the excerpt!!
ReplyDeleteI have been so intrigued by this book, MUST HAVE NOW! ;)
ReplyDeleteLinds - I'm not either, but I've read some good ones of late so I'm really hoping this one continues that trend!
ReplyDeleteJan - That's my hope too:)
Bailey - You're welcome! I love getting deleted scenes from books:)
Avery - Must have now is right:)
O that was great. I love excerpts.
ReplyDeleteThis excerpt is not enough! I want more! I really do! I can't wait to read this book!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the angel themed YA too. I do have this in my reading pile and hoping to read it later this month.
ReplyDeleteI have this one on my wishlist since I love the cover. Deleted scenes are always fun to read though they're even better after you've read the book.
ReplyDeleteYay for deleted scenes! I really want to read this one! I haven't heard a bad thing yet! And that scene is awesome! I really love the trailer as well!
ReplyDeleteJuju - Me too:) Especially when it's a book I'm dying to read!
ReplyDeleteSavy - Can it be June 21st already?
Jenny - At least we don't have to wait too much longer:)
Zahida - I love the cover too, it's so warm and pretty:) It will be fun to read this scene again after reading the book and see what new meaning it takes on.
Jacinda - I haven't either! I taking that as a good sign:)
*sighs* Okay, I'll admit (albeit reluctantly) that the angel theme is starting to grow on me too. Just don't tell my vampire friends. :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Looking forward to this book too. Love the pretty cover and title!
ReplyDeleteAngel books have been a hit or miss with me, but the premise of this book made me curious. Looking forward to reading your review, Jenny!
ReplyDeleteI'm actually kind of ambivalent about this book, because although I did love Unearthly, and I am, naturally, a fan of the Guild Hunter books, I'm not crazy about angels. I'll have to wait for your review to see if I'll read it. I'm crazy in love with the beautiful cover, though. My favorite covers. And, of course, this is just what I look like at sunset.
ReplyDeleteI've heard so many Awesome things about this book, I'm so excited to read it dude!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm excited - this looks great! Thanks for the excerpt but it just makes it harder to wait!
ReplyDeleteLove that excerpt. Yep... looks like I'll have to get this one!
ReplyDeleteThat's one heck of a haunting excerpt. That, alone, makes me want to read this one! Fab post!
ReplyDeleteI'm excited! Thanks for that deleted scene!
