Waiting on Wednesday: Novella Boyfriend Edition

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking The Spine and is a fun way to see what books other bloggers just can't wait to get their hands on!

Typically I choose just one book to focus on each week, but there are so many novellas coming out in the near future that feature some of my very favorite book boys that I couldn't possibly choose between them. I love them all equally you see, and I wouldn't want any of them to feel left out. I know how they all crave my undying affection ;-)

Novellas aren't always my thing–their brevity preventing me from getting to know the characters as well as I want to–but ones written in the POV of beloved characters from already existing series (whose POVs we don't get in the full length books) are a completely different story. Bring them on.

Unraveling #1.5
Elizabeth Norris
Young Adult SciFi

THE STORY (from Goodreads)
Before the accident. Before their universes collided. Before they fell in love.

Riveting and romantic, Undone: An Unraveling Novella contains three short stories set in the world of Unraveling, the first book in the gripping sci-fi duology by Elizabeth Norris.

Before Ben Michaels saved Janelle Tenner’s life, Janelle saved Ben when he stumbled through an interuniverse portal into a completely new world. That day, he fell in love with the girl of his dreams. And he never forgot her.

Through three stories told from Ben’s point of view, learn how Ben and his friends discovered their ability to travel between worlds, how Ben first met Janelle, and how he pined for her for years before he actually got the chance to meet her, save her life, and capture her heart. And find out what happens to Ben between the cliff-hanger conclusion to
Unraveling and the beginning of its heart-stopping sequel, Unbreakable.

This one is already out, so technically no waiting involved. WIN! I fell madly in love with Ben last year in Unraveling, so any extra time I get to spend with him is a good thing.

Mythos Academy #4.5
Jennifer Estep
Paranormal Young Adult
June 25th
Kensington Teen

*Warning: blurb contains spoilers from book 4, Crimson Frost

THE STORY (from Goodreads)
I’m Logan Quinn, the deadliest Spartan warrior at Mythos Academy. At least I was — until the day I almost killed Gwen Frost.

Professor Metis and Nickamedes say that I’m fine, that Loki and the Reapers don’t have a hold on me anymore, but I can’t risk it. I can’t risk hurting Gwen again. So I’m leaving Mythos and going somewhere far, far away.

I know Gwen wonders what’s happening to me, whether I’m safe. I can’t tell her, but this is my story …

Logan. Quinn. I want in his head. That is all.

Revenants #2.5
Amy Plum
Paranormal Young Adult

HarperTeen Impulse

THE STORY (from Goodreads)
Set in the romantic and death-defying world of the international bestselling Die for Me trilogy, this digital original novella follows Jules, a brooding, immortal French artist who has fallen in love with his best friend’s girlfriend.

Jules Marchenoir is a revenant-an undead being whose fate forces him to sacrifice himself over and over again to save human lives. He’s spent the better part of the last century flirting his way through Paris, but when he met Kate Mercier, the heroine from Amy Plum’s Die for Me trilogy, he knew his afterlife had changed forever and he had found the love of his life. Until Kate fell for his best friend, Vincent. Now Jules is faced with an impossible decision: choosing between his loyal friend and a love truly worth dying for.

Jules is one of my favorite characters from this series, and I always got the sense that he loves Kate, though he covers it up with jokes and witty remarks. I'm definitely looking forward to him being center stage in this novella!

  1. Yay novellas! I don't read many, but I always love the glimpse of characters that are not the main POV's too. Like Macey in the Double-crossed by Ally Carter novella! And Nick in Breathless by Brigid Kemmerer! (Can't wait for seige!)

I'm also looking forward to Undone! I hope to read Mythos someday. :)

  5. I think everyone with a heart adores Jules... he is just so thoughtful and funny and artistic. I can't STAND that his heart is inevitably going to get broken, but on the other hand, I love Vincent so much.
Ben's novella was just fabulous, and Unbreakable not what I expected at all, but great nevertheless. I can't wait to hear your opinion on both.

  7. There are SO many novellas coming out -- I'm amazed! It's like the publishers said to all their authors, "Hey, each one of you has to write at least two novellas this year. We're gonna swamp 'em!"

I do like the ones that bridge or prequel novels, though. They help tide me over until the next book comes out.

  10. WHAT!!!!! WHAT!!! HOLD UP! WAIT A MINUTE! THERE'S A NOVELLA ABOUT THE HOTTIE SPARTAN AND I DID NOT KNOW THIS! Jenny, I love you for bringing this to my attention. OMG! I freaking out right now. I need it ASAP!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Undone and Die for Her are high on my must-read list, too! I haven't read anything by Jennifer Estep (*ducks*), but she sounds good, too!

Shoot! I forgot I downloaded The Prince and haven't read it yet. I love that Harper Impulse is doing all these novellas to go with my favorite series'!

    Great picks, Jenny!

  12. Hah this is an awesome post Jenny, I agree there are far too many great novellas coming out that I can never keep up, so this certainly helps me keep tabs on what's going to be released soon. I can't wait to read Unbreakable, so Undone will definitely be a great novella to dive into before it's release date! Also the cover to Die For Her is absolutely stunning! Thanks for sharing these great books with us Jenny! :)

  14. OMG...i didn't know that Die For Her was coming out. I'm not a big novella fan either, but I'll read that. Did you see that they're releasing the Bane Chronicles as a series of 10 ebooks? That sounds exciting, but I really don't want to pay $2.99 for each story. That seems excessive for short stories - depending on their length. I'll probably wait until it's in print next year.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I read Undone and whoop, whoop! Ben is even more to my liking. He is so my kinda guy. I love him to pieces! I just got Until I Die so I have a long way to go with The Revenants series as I see, but Jules is one of my favorite characters and just like you, I sense some love from his side and it ain't all brotherly. I don't think they'll get together with Kate, but since I haven't read the second one yet than maybe there'll be some confused feelings from KAte towards Jules? Anyhow, novella's aren't exaclty my cup of tea, but if they involve stories and characters I love, I'll definitely read 'em =)

  16. It's been so long since I read Die For Me so I only have a vague recollection of Jules, but it sounds like he's the funny best friend who I really liked. I should probably catch up on the series before reading this, but I'd love to get his story (the funny guy left a bigger impression on me than Vincent to be honest). I already downloaded Undone! So excited!! And I'm gradually working on the Mythos Academy series. I'm pretty far away from being ready for this one, but I'll get there eventually....(hopefully)... :-) Great picks!

  20. I've been on quite the novella kick lately, but usually agree that they aren't my thing. I do love these taste of the character stories that pop up between books :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. I am with Kimba, I am not a fan of the novellas as I don't really get much out of them. They just don't grab me. Now that said, I am very much looking forward to the next Mythos Academy my guilty pleasure reads!

  25. How have I NOT heard of Undone?! I liked Unraveling, so I definitely have to put Undone on my tbr list. The three stories told in Ben's perspective sound fantastic. :) Like you, that's what I love about novellas--getting to see inside the heads of someone other than the main character. It's fascinating and it adds another layer to the story! Fabulous picks, Jenny! :)
