EXCERPT

PERSES RETURNS
August 4, 2071 * Washington, DC

In shocking turn of events, scientists and government officials are confirming that the fragments of the steroid Perses have changed trajectory, and are now headed directly toward Earth.

Officials estimate contact to occur within less than one year, and are scrambling to calculate points of impact and mobilize defensive measure in hopes of minimizing damages.

One UN official, speaking anonymously, said, "There are at least a dozen fragments that have suddenly and inexplicably changed course. We don't have an answer as to how or why this happened. Our best hope is to find out where they will hit and try to minimize causalities. Until we know more, we can only recommend that people stay put, live their lives and pray."

ICONS

Your heart beats only with their permission.

Everything changed on The Day. The day the windows shattered. The day the power stopped. The day Dol's family dropped dead. The day Earth lost a war it didn't know it was fighting.

Since then, Dol has lived a simple life in the countryside -- safe from the shadow of the Icon and its terrifying power. Hiding from the one truth she can't avoid.

She's different. She survived. Why?

When Dol and her best friend, Ro, are captured and taken to the Embassy, off the coast of the sprawling metropolis once known as the City of Angels, they find only more questions. While Ro and fellow hostage Tima rage against their captors, Dol finds herself drawn to Lucas, the Ambassador's privileged son. But the four teens are more alike than they might think, and the timing of their meeting isn't a coincidence. It's a conspiracy.

I started this ARC and had to put it aside because I got a serious case of book ADD and got distracted by a shiny new release purchase from last week, but I was enjoying it before I put it down. Hoping to start it again tomorrow! This excerpt is very creepy, I hope the rest of the story is fantastic too. Thanks for sharing! :-)

  34. I've been seeing this one around, but I had no idea of the details, and now I'm very curious about the worldbuilding. The blurb is vague, but it gives just enough to grab my attention.
Is it weird that I love the name Dol for a character? Huh.

  38. This sounds really good but I've seen a review that was mixed. I actually went to a signing for Stohl with her co-writer Garcia and they were extremely entertaining. One of the funnest signings I've been to. Thanks for the giveaway and sharing, Jenny. :)
