Okay, so the expanding and building of the Association took up a lot of my energy as I was writing Abandon. We didn’t get to see much of the world in Possession or Surrender, and I knew I needed to show everything in the final book. I also needed to let readers know that the Resistance was not in its youth. That there were people all over the Association who had joined and who had been working, even though their fearless leader, Jag Barque, hadn’t been on-screen directing it all.
Enter the city of Harvest. I needed every city to have a specific function (see yesterday’s scavenger hunt post), and I needed a city that was well advanced down the Resistance trail. A city that I could use as an example of what the world might look like if the Resistance won. That city was Harvest. It’s where one of Jag’s groomed Insiders has taken over, and it’s where Zenn goes to implement a false feed. Something happens there that shakes Zenn’s loyalty—but I don’t want to give too much away! Writing about what happened in Harvest—for both Jag and Zenn—was exciting, and I hope readers will enjoy it too! Today's scavenger hunt can begin here! Somewhere on this map of the Association is the winning city. I've mentioned here in this post, and you can find references to it in all of today's posts. (See complete blog tour here.)

ReplyDeleteBut I get stuck on the name Jag...it means I in my language
Does it? That's interesting:)
DeleteI have heard of this series and I love the covers! I didn't know what's this story about but I think that now I kind of have some ideas. Still I can't wait to read it. Great post Jenny :)
ReplyDeleteI really love the covers too Tanja! So simple and pretty:)
DeleteI wish this series worked for me, but for some reason, I just couldn't really get into it. I love this scavenger hunt though - what a fun way to tour a book! Great feature, Jenny! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's not for everyone, there's a lot going on in it:) I'm loving this scavenger hunt as well, even though I fail at scavenger hunts in general. I still love doing them.
DeleteWow this sounds like a pretty intense world in this series. I had tried to read the first book in the series and it just didn't work for me, but I'm happy to see that it does work for so many others. Love this scavenger hunt idea, such a great way to promote the series!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it? I love super clever marketing campaigns:)
DeleteI'm a map person. Seriously! Geography was always one of my favorites in school and I love fantasy maps. I used to make up maps of imaginary places for fun.
ReplyDeleteStop laughing, Jenny. Don't judge me.
I love this map. And this post. And I really need to read this series!
I'm not laughing. I'm not. For serious:) I'm glad you win at maps, that way if we're ever traveling together somewhere other than NYC, I can just follow you around like a lost puppy and let you lead me to where we're going. I'm directionally challenged, but I stalk cabs like it's my job, so it all evens out I think.
DeleteI'm excited that this series didn't end prematurely and that we get to find out what happened! Yay, Elana! I do like the map, too. Helps me picture the world better.
ReplyDeleteI fail when it comes to scavenger hunts. But the world that Johnson has created sounds awesome. Thanks for sharing this great post with us Jenny! :)
ReplyDeleteScavenger hunts are always such a fun thing to do!
ReplyDeleteI still haven't read this series but I do plan on trying it! So many great books to read!!
LOL imagine my surprise when I thought this was a contemporary series. Oh boy. I'm LOL-ing so hard right now. Hahaha.
ReplyDeleteThere is a map! I have such a soft spot for maps. And the worldbuilding sounds very intriguing.
ReplyDeleteI remember seeing these covers for the first time and being so determined to start the series after reading a few reviews, but then... I have no idea what happened. A pile of arcs, that's what!
But now that they're all out, I should do something about it.
Ooh I love scavenger hunts, I always get totally sucked into them. This is super cool, and I'm really excited to read this, but I'm still on book two. I need to get caught up asap so I can read Abandon soon with all the cool kids. :-) Thanks for the fun hunt!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read this series but thanks for sharing this post, Jenny! :)
ReplyDeleteI love this series and my copy of Abandon should arrive any day!
ReplyDeleteWhen I first saw this map I was SO excited cause it makes things so much more clear for me. I understand the distances and stuff much better. I'm so anxious to find out more about the world!
Jenny, I still need to finish this series! I read the first book and never finished. GAH! I need to read it. Thanks the giveaway.
