Goodbye, Griffin

This afternoon my husband and I had to say goodbye to Griffin, who after battling cancer for 4 months finally decided he'd had enough. While I'm an absolute mess, there's comfort in knowing Gatsby (who we lost at Christmas last year) was waiting for him and they get to be the ridiculous boxers they always were together once again.

Adopting Gracie a few months ago gave me a new perspective on our boys as well, and I'm so grateful that neither of them experienced what Gracie has in her short life and instead spent every day of the 8 years we had with each of them warm, fed, and loved beyond measure. You will be missed my sweet boy.

  6. I'm heartbroken for you guys, Jenny... so soon after his brother. Those two wonderful pups of yours had a great life for sure and it's always the ones left behind that have the harder time. So glad that you guys at least have Gracie now! *hugs*

  10. I am so sorry :( We lost our Sheila in November of last year and our Piper in April. It was devastating to lose them both in such a short period of time. Piper had cancer too :( My heart hurts for you. Sending big hugs your way! You are amazing for adopting another pup. We also filled the beds our girls left behind with a shelter pup and a stray we found living under a car.

  17. Oh Jenny :*( *HUG* I'm so, so sorry that you and your family are going through this again...so soon after Gatsby! Both he and Griffin were lucky to have a family like yours and it's like you said: at least they're together now ♥ I know other animal family members never replace the ones we lost, but I'm glad that you have Gracie to remind you of the good times, and I'm sure that Griffin and Gatsby live on in her. I'm so sorry for your loss. R.I.P Griffin xoxox

  18. Big hugs. I lost a dog this year too. She was 16 1/2 years old and lost use of her mid back back. I adopted a rescue dog last month and although I miss Daisy I am happy to be able to give Ren a good home. They are lucky to have you. Give Gracie some extra hugs too.

  21. My heart goes out to you and your husband. I dread the day that one of ours goes. They're both waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge. If you have never heard of it, it's an awesome poem about our pets. Not that it makes it any easier, but he's no longer in any pain and is with his brother Gatsby. I know you have lots of wonderful memories of both Griffin and Gatsby. If they're any anything like my pair of Doxies, they sure as heck made memories. Lots of healing hugs to you both.
