Blog Hop January 14-17
This week's question: Why do you read the genre you do? What draws you to it?
I read predominantly paranormal books, and I've just always been drawn to them because it's so easy for me to get swept up in something completely surreal. I love imagining things that couldn't possibly exist but secretly wondering if just maybe there are weres or vamps out there somewhere, perhaps ones that look like Bones from Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series. Or Jace (though not a vampire or were) from Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments books. I wouldn't mind if they were real:)
Thanks so much to Crazy for Books for hosting the hop!
This week's question: What makes up your non-human family?
I have two boxers named Gatsby and Griffin and they are the most ridiculous dogs imaginable. They have more energy than should be legal for any dog to have, and they like give me their patented "sad" faces because they know I'll cave and give them anything they want. I'm a giant sucker as a dog parent:)
Thanks so much to Parajunkee for hosting the hop!
On a side note: I apologize for the lack of cover critique this week, I've been down and out with the flu the past few days and my snarkiness was not up to snuff. I promise the cover critique will be back next Friday! Have a great weekend everyone:)

So sad to hear about the flu. Hope you are feeling better--just keep on pretending Jace is real; that should boost anyone's morale! ;)
ReplyDeleteJust hopping through... I too love to lose myself in the wonderful and imaginative worlds our YA authors create!
ReplyDeleteMichelle from Pineapples & Pyjamas
Just hopping by not doing the hop, doing a contest. Seems like just blogging and reviews has kept me away from the hop for a long time! I anxious to see what you think of Demon Trapper's Daughter.
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better. Flu is going around. Just get rest. I'm a sucker for the puppy dog face too. My two are spoiled rotten. They're rescue dogs and they think that entitles them to the couch, the bed, people food, my lap (even at 100 lbs) and rides anytime the keys are picked up, chasing rabbits, chipmunks, and a possible coyote (I try to keep them in if I think that's what it is at night) and a romp with the neighbor's dogs.
Is there a big S on my forehead?
Heather
I am sorry to hear that you are not well. I hope you feel better soon :)
ReplyDeleteI don't have any pets, unfortunately.Gatsby and Griffin sound so much fun!
Hopping by to say Hello! I'm a huge YA fan and love the genre! You can find me blogging here: http://blog.juliealindsey.com/
ReplyDeleteHopping through.
ReplyDeleteBoxers! So cool. When I was a baby, our next door neighbors had two boxers, Agnes and Goliath. The neighbors were usually gone so the dogs basically lived at our house. The dogs adored me. My parents tell me how they used to walk next to me when I would go down steps so I wouldn't fall and I could pull their ears and tails for hours without a complaint.
I looked at some boxers from a rescue org when I was searching for a dog but couldn't find one right for me. I still might get one some day.
My Hop
Hi,
ReplyDeleteJust hopping by and following through. I read a eclectic mix of genres though I do have favourites.
I posted a pic of our pet - come and see!

Oh I know how about being sick I think I have something now. (I also work in a pharmacy so I probably got it from someone there, but it's just now starting to get worse the flu and everything) Anyways, I would always cave into my dog when he looked at me with the sad, brown eyes.
ReplyDeleteDon't you love reading a description about how you can spot a hidden *insert paranormal entity here*, then glancing up and immediately try and find that tell? I swear, there are a couple people I see regularly (working at the library or whatnot) who I keep an eye on for paranormal traits. Hope you have a great weekend.

Yeah, we have 2 wild dogs too. Mix breeds. One was supposed to be husky, but he has Great Perineese in him. The other is supposed to be a husky mix as well, not sure what the other breed was supposed to be. But they are both nuts! And one of them has an attitude problem.

Have a GREAT weekend!
Hello Jenny!! Happy Friday!! Have a great weekend :)
ReplyDeleteI have been meaning to get to your blog and read more since becoming a follower/friend through twitter so I'm doing it today!!!
ReplyDeleteI really hope you start to feel better soon, having the flu is NEVER fun. :-(
Love the questions and answers and I secretly wonder if paranormal stuff is really real too! I am also a dog mom to a half husky half blue heeler mix and he is my baby! I understand that whole non-human family stuff! Boxers are just beautiful and make such great pets.
Have a fabulous Friday!
I'm so sorry to hear you've been sick, Jenny! I hope you feel better soon, and I'm looking forward to your next Cover Critique ;)
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday!
Saying Hi from the hop...but I love your blog so I would be here anyway...:D
ReplyDeleteI loved the Mortal Series..except for that whole brother and sister thing that almost had me yacking..which hopefully your feeling better!!..:D
Oh, I know what you mean, about enjoying reading about supernatural beings. It's fun to explore what might be possible if paranormal powers really did exist.
ReplyDeleteI just finished reading the second book in the Mortal Instruments series. All my friends have been egging me to read it! I don't know if I can go on though... I'm just so squicked out by Clary and Jace's brother/sister romance! Everyone's telling me that I mustn't get discouraged, and to keep reading the third book, but I just don't know. I really liked Simon a whole lot better than Jace -- I thought the fact that he's shy and nerdy was so cute. I like to root for the underdog, and Jace seems like too much of a pushy Alpha-male jerk to appeal to me.
I can't wait for the return of your cover critique! They always leave me rolling - you find the most incredible, silly, so-terrible-that-they're-awesome things!
Love your dogs' names! And thanks for visiting my blog!
ReplyDeleteWow! You have an awesome blog! Thank you for following me and I am now a follower! Hope you feel better!

Happy Hop Day!

Thanks for following my blog! I have a boxer too, named Riley. He is so incredibly spoiled it is ridiculous!!!
ReplyDeleteMy cat Cassie is the same way. He gives me the patented "sad" face, like the one Puss does in Shrek 2. He usually gets what he wants too.
ReplyDeleteOh hun! Hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog! I love my new followers!
ReplyDeleteThough I read predominately fantasy, I have some paranormal books on my reading list too...your blog makes the genre sound really interesting =)

Aw, thank you so much! This is my first time visiting your blog, which is shocking since it's so...established. I've gotta poke through your reviews and what not. I'm curious. And thanks for following, I'll be sure to return the favor!
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks. They really are adorable. But trust me, they're not all that great behavioral wise. Since there's two of them (and I'd like to think it's also because they're brothers) they wait 'til everyone is nice and comfortable in their beds, welcoming rest when *MEOW* only it comes out more like a shriek and they run around fighting like kung fu warriors, kicking and clawing at each other. No joke. I've witnessed it. Sometimes I wish I could change them into dogs for the day, see how they like it.
*SIGH* Thanks for stopping by the blog, and have a wonderful weekend!
Asher K.
You had me at Jace... ;)
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more with you! Have a great weekend Jenny!

Hi there! Thanks for stopping by! I love your blog and am following back. Boxers are the CUTEST. I love them, but so high energy! I also like to read paranormal and wish it were real. A girl can dream, right? :) Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteAww... so sorry to hear you've been bogged down with flu. Hope you feel better soon and get back to being your fabulously snarky self :) I actually tend to find that I even though I read a lot of one genre (mainly paranormal YA), I don't limit myself to them. Like you though, I'm intrigued with teh concept of the creatures of the night and can't help but secretly wish that some of them were real :) I have yet to meet Bones - but have heard awesome things about her books :D I must make a point of getting the series.
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel better soon. I liked your answer on genres. That's basically how I feel.
ReplyDeleteHi, I'm a new follower from the hop :)
ReplyDeleteI love paranormal for the same reason, just the whole 'what if' you ask yourself.
Hope you feel better soon!
Hope you feel better! New Follower, just love your blog!!

Thanks for stopping by my blog and for following. I like your answer. I don't read an overabundance of paranormal fiction but when I do I love reading about a new world or a new breed of pseudo-human/monster. Hope you have a great weekend. Happy Reading!

Paranormal themed books are the ones that sweep me away completely too. I like to get deeply involved with whatever I'm reading but paranormal books are those that I can completely relax and let my imaginations run wild...safely;) Oh, how I wish Jean Claude from the Anita Blake series was real!
