Waiting On Wednesday: Midnight Thief

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking The Spine and is a fun way to see what books other bloggers just can't wait to get their hands on!

Young Adult/Fantasy
Releases July 8th from Disney-Hyperion

From Goodreads:

Growing up on Forge’s streets has taught Kyra how to stretch a coin. And when that’s not enough, her uncanny ability to scale walls and bypass guards helps her take what she needs.

But when the leader of the Assassins Guild offers Kyra a lucrative job, she hesitates. She knows how to get by on her own, and she’s not sure she wants to play by his rules. But he’s persistent—and darkly attractive—and Kyra can’t quite resist his pull.

Tristam of Brancel is a young Palace knight on a mission. After his best friend is brutally murdered by Demon Riders, a clan of vicious warriors who ride bloodthirsty wildcats, Tristam vows to take them down. But as his investigation deepens, he finds his efforts thwarted by a talented thief, one who sneaks past Palace defenses with uncanny ease.

When a fateful raid throws Kyra and Tristam together, the two enemies realize that their best chance at survival—and vengeance—might be to join forces. And as their loyalties are tested to the breaking point, they learn a startling secret about Kyra’s past that threatens to reshape both their lives.

In her arresting debut novel, Livia Blackburne creates a captivating world where intrigue prowls around every corner—and danger is a way of life.

I'm typically not a huge high fantasy person, but I've been reading more and more of this genre lately and each book has only proven to me that I'm way more of a fantasy lover than I previously thought. I love the enemies setup between Kyra and Tristam (though I have to admit in my head his name is Tristan); the romance obsessed girl in me is gleefully hoping their antagonism will lead to love, but if not, I say bring on the secrets and the danger! I'm so ready.

  1. I always think I'm not a huge fantasy fan but then I pick one up and love it. That name Tristam would snag me up every time I read it. Why not put the "n" back? Please. Great choice, Jenny! :)

    1. Hahaha same here Rachel! I've read several fantasies this year and have loved all of them, so I have high hopes for this one! And I have no idea why the "m" instead of an "n":)

  5. OOOHHH!!! I'm so IN with this one. I LOVE fantasy, when it's done right (and there is a ton of bad fantasy out there so I can see why you have shied away from it.).

  6. Tristram - like Stardust, eh?

This looks good to me. I enjoy high fantasy, thieves, and debut novels.

  7. This reminds me a lot of the Throne of Glass books, but hopefully with enough differences to keep things interesting. I'll definitely be checking it out!! Thanks for bringing it to my attention. =)

  8. This sounds good, but like Book Labrynth it sounds like a cope of Throne of Glass. Still curious though.

  12. Assassin's Guild... darkly attractive... must you always use ALL the magic words? I AM a huge high fantasy fan, and of course a romance fan as well, so this will be great for me. Plus the cover is fabulous.

  13. Jenny I change odd sounding names in my head too. I have read some fantastic fantasy this year. What I think you will probably fine is that you enjoy fantasy, but not high fantasy.

  15. UM, how have I not ever heard of this one? It sounds AMAZING. I'm adding it to my TBR right now. I love thief books, reminds me of Megan Whalen Turner's series. Plus that cover almost looks 3D. PS. I always make up names for my characters, b/c I never pay attention to spelling. Then I hear them said out loud, and I'm like WHAT? That can't be right. Tristam/Tristan I get it!
