I'm so pleased today to welcome author Patricia Vanasse to the blog as part of the promotional tour for her new release, Against All Odds. It's a Q+A kind of week here on the blog, so I hope you guys enjoy my temporary secondary career as a professional interviewer ;-) If Patricia's answers about Max and Loren pique your interest, please add Against All Odds to your TBR lists! Be sure and check the bottom of the post too for all the details on a special giveaway.
Max and Loren have a lot of obstacles to overcome in order to be together. If they wanted a break from the drama of their lives, what one other fictional couple might they read about in order to feel better about their own relationship challenges?
Oh, wow! I think the challenges Romeo and Juliet encountered would make anyone feel better about their own relationship challenges.
If Loren could write her father a letter that lays bare everything she’s been feeling since her friend Lily’s death, how would the first line read?
Dad, if there’s anyone in this world who can understand what I’m feeling right now, that person is you, and still, you’re failing me completely.
What’s one quirk or habit of Max’s that Loren never would have noticed if her dad hadn’t invited him to live under their roof? One of Loren’s that Max never would noticed?
Max has the habit of touching his watchband when he’s nervous, and Loren bites the inside of her mouth. The more they get to know each other, the more they come to understand their habits.
If Loren could talk to Lily one last time and ask her for once piece of best friend advice regarding Max, what would her first question be?
I’m sure Loren would ask Lily if she should keep their relationship a secret or face anyone who is against them being together. She valued Lily’s opinion more than anyone else’s.
What would Loren say are the top 3 most romantic books she’s ever read?
-Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare
-Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë
-Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Thanks so much for stopping by Patricia!

AGAINST ALL ODDS
Sometimes boy meets girl, and the stars align, and their future is laid out neatly before them. Together forever. Meant to be. But Max and Loren are not one of those couples.
Seventeen-year-old Max DuPont is on the verge of becoming a ward of the state and foster kid. Contrary to expectations, Max is not from the "wrong" side of town. He's from a good home in a nice neighborhood, but his mother left after his father lost his job and turned to drinking. Max has been struggling to keep his head above water ever since. All he wants is to survive his senior year, play hockey, and move on to college. When his dad lands himself in jail, Max has no choice but to accept an offer to live with his father's do-gooder attorney, Mr. Larssi. The only contingency is that Max must stay far away from Larssi's beautiful teenage daughter Loren.
Loren is aware that she's had every opportunity in her young adult life—at least, that is, every opportunity her parents designed for her. She excels in academics at a competitive prep school, she never parties, she never dates, and she's a budding ballerina and major hopeful for a Juilliard scholarship. But since her best friend Lily died tragically three months ago, Loren is lost. She knows just how precious life is. But she has no idea how to make the best of it. How can she live—really live—with obsessive parents breathing down her neck…and inviting the only guy who never noticed her to live right under their roof?
Loren's first step in living her own life might be to get Max to notice her. Max's only chance at a solid future without foster care is to keep his distance from Loren. But their chemistry is undeniable. And they can't fight the odds forever.
