A Post of Pretty: New Covers Part 2

Last weekend I did a cover roundup for some of HarperTeen's stunning Winter 2014 releases, but it seems I jumped the gun a little because they've added even more prettiness to the group, so get ready to make your to-be-read lists even longer (the below are the ones I'm most excited about, but you can see the full list at Epic Reads)!

Melissa Walker • December 23rd, 2013

Spellcaster #2
Claudia Gray • March 4th, 2014

Partials #3
Dan Wells •  March 11th, 2014

Courtney C. Stevens • April 1st, 2014

Alexandra Duncan • April 1st, 2014

And my absolute favorite of this latest group:

Kelley Armstrong • April 8th, 2014

From Goodreads:

In the Forest of the Dead, where the empire’s worst criminals are exiled, twin sisters Moria and Ashyn are charged with a dangerous task. For they are the Keeper and the Seeker, and each year they must quiet the enraged souls of the damned.

Only this year, the souls will not be quieted.

Ambushed and separated by an ancient evil, the sisters’ journey to find each other sends them far from the only home they’ve ever known. Accompanied by a stubborn imperial guard and a dashing condemned thief, the girls cross a once-empty wasteland, now filled with reawakened monsters of legend, as they travel to warn the emperor. But a terrible secret awaits them at court—one that will alter the balance of their world forever.

Also revealed this week was the cover for J.L. Bryan's newest title, Nomad. I'm a huge fan of J.L.'s Jenny Pox series so I'm extremely excited to give Nomad a try!

From Goodreads:

A new dystopian novel from the author of Jenny Pox - coming July 26.

They took everything: her family, her home, her childhood.

By the age of nineteen, Raven has spent most of her life in the sprawling slums of America, fighting as a rebel against the dictatorship. When the rebellion steals an experimental time-travel device, she travels back five decades to the year 2013. Her plan: assassinate the future dictator when he is still young and vulnerable, long before he comes to power. She must move fast to reshape history, because agents from her own time are on her trail, ready to execute her on sight.

Last but hopefully not least, I wanted to share with you one final cover. As some of you who follow this blog consistently know, I make my living as a graphic designer. Up until now I've focused primarily on wedding invitations and related stationery with the occasional corporate branding job thrown in, but in the past several months I've been expanding the scope of my work to include book covers. I recently had the pleasure of working with fantasy author Intisar Khanani to create the cover for Sunbolt, the first book in her Sunbolt Chronicles series. Hope you guys like it!

From Goodreads:

The winding streets and narrow alleys of Karolene hide many secrets, and Hitomi is one of them. Orphaned at a young age, Hitomi has learned to hide her magical aptitude and who her parents really were. Most of all, she must conceal her role in the Shadow League, an underground movement working to undermine the powerful and corrupt Arch Mage Wilhelm Blackflame.

When the League gets word that Blackflame intends to detain—and execute—a leading political family, Hitomi volunteers to help the family escape. But there are more secrets at play than Hitomi’s, and much worse fates than execution. When Hitomi finds herself captured along with her charges, it will take everything she can summon to escape with her life.

  4. Best post ever! These covers are so stunning, the designers of book covers are truly amazing people. I especially adore the one for Ashes to Ashes. It's so beautiful and intriguing. The cover for Faking Normal really caught my eye as well.

Thank you so much for sharing these pretty covers with us, Jenny. :)

  6. You've got me at Ashes to Ashes! I haven't heard of that book but I want it now! Other sound really great. I'm so happy to see Kelly Armstrong writing something new, finally. And Ruins is probably the best cover in this series. Great post Jenny :)

  8. That girl on the cover of FAKING NORMAL is so pretty *stares* LOL. I haven't read a single book in the series you brought out so I don't know how excited I am about the cover reveal, not much I guess :-D But I do think they're all pretty :-) AND JENNYYYYY!!!! You have done well, my friend! This cover is sooooo gorgeous. GORGEOUS! You're talented and it's about time you did something in this wonderful book world with your talent other than a few occasional graphics for your own fun. More people need to get a part of your talent since it's impossible not to stare. It's very pretty :-)

    1. YES! I love the Faking Normal cover! I love how she has freckles and doesn't look so perfectly smooth and photoshopped. I like a girl that looks real:) And thanks so much for your kind words, I'm taking some baby steps into the cover design world but I'm really excited about it. I'm ready for a different type of challenge than wedding invitations!

    1. THANK YOU! It's hard for me to tell if my work looks "good enough", I'm so close to it and I know I did it so it always looks different to me from other covers, but I'm like that with all my design pieces:)

LOVE those freckles, her face is just so fresh:)

  17. It's official. You're doing all my covers EVER. (And I need a title, like ASAP for you.) HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT GIRAFFE SHIFTER EROTICA?

  18. HOLY CRAP. THAT COVER OF SUNBOLT IS INCREDIBLE!!!! When I first saw the cover (Before I actually read your paragraph above Sunbolt) I was thinking "Woww...That is the prettiest cover out of the ones you showed" and then I read that you designed it and I was literally speechless. WOW. THAT IS AMAZINGGGG JENNY!<3333

Some really interesting titles up there! Can't wait to read them :)

  19. Oh wow. I love all of these covers and now you are making me add ALL of these books to my ever-growing TBR list. I really like the covers of Ashes to Ashes and Salvage. I hope you have a great weekend.

  20. Jenny!!! That SUNBOLT cover is absolutely gorgeous. You have extreme talent, I tell you that much.

Have you read any of the Partials series. I had heard wan reviews about it so I was quite skeptical. So many of those books sound amazing. SALVAGE sound lovely as does SEA OF SHADOWS. I've been in a huge science fiction crunch lately so I think I'm most excited for SALVAGE. The synopses of Claudia Gray's books always seem so good, but after her Evernight series (of which I stopped after book 3) I can't bring myself to read her books. The plot line in that one killed me.

  21. I can't wait to read Ruins! I wasn't such a fan of Fragments, but I'm still looking forward to see the conclusion to this story :)

  22. Oh. Wow. Jenny--that's amazing! I was all excited about Sea of Shadows until you blew that out of the water with the Sunbolt cover. It's gorgeous!

  23. That's amazing! Congratulations on starting to do book covers! I love the firey design blended above a shadowy blue background. Just superb work! Can't wait to see more of your covers, Jenny!

(I, on the other hand, am hopeless when it comes to graphic design)

(I really love how you made the background blend with all those different shades, like a virtual tie-dye)

  24. I actually hadn't seen any of these covers, so thanks for sharing, Jenny! They're all gorgeous, as usual!(:

  25. I love your lettering on Sunbolt - it manages to be both very fancy and entirely legible at the same time!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Wow, you did a fabulous job with that cover Jenny! It's so original and not what you'd expect with a title like Sunbolt, yet captures the feel of the description. You will be (are) an excellent book cover designer! Can't wait to see what else you do.

As for the fabulous book covers above....Glad I'm not reviewing right now. I am so tempted to click on that link. Don't even get me started on your sidebar!

  30. YES! So many awesome and amazing covers!

  31. I'm a total cover whore, Jenny. I could pick up a book just based off of one, which has got me into trouble on occasion.

Faking Normal is something that catches my eye. But I SERIOUSLY love your cover, Jenny! You are so very talented! :)

  32. Sorry to comment bomb you but I've been on a beach vacay the last few days and am catching up on blog reading. :-)

So many lovelies are headed our way! I'm probably most excited about Ruins and Sea of Shadows. And I'm not even lying—I saw a Sunbolt review on someone else's blog last week (I can't remember where) and I remember going "oooh pretty!" and thinking the author really did it right, because most indie authors don't bother to hire professional designers to make a truly eye-catching cover, they just use stock art of the same two people everyone else is using. I can't believe now I'm finding out you designed this lovely cover—you totally ROCK! If I ever finish a book I'm coming straight to you. :-)
