Guest Post + Giveaway: Karen Metcalf

Today I'm excited to welcome Karen Metcalf to the blog, she's stopping by to share with us her thoughts on the benefits of an e-reader. She's also offering up copies of her e-book to three lucky commenters, so please check at the bottom of the post for details on the giveaway!

Why I bought an ereader (before my novella was even considered for publication)

When I started querying for a blog tour, I knew I was at a slight disadvantage because I was publishing an ebook. There is still a great deal of people opposed to them. However, there are so many advantages that I think people are missing out on.

To be honest, I’ve read more in the past year than probably any other. And you don’t have to pay the $25 for a hardback, or wait it out for the cheaper paperback version. Books are much, much cheaper. I’ve also gone home to visit in the past, and kicked myself for not bringing enough books, though there was no room in my suitcase, anyway. Now, I have every single book on a device slimmer than a paperback.

I come from a small town. It is a mission to get a new book, so most of the time we just re-read what we had. I convinced my sister to try it out, and she has been converted for life.

I don’t tell you this simply because I have an ebook coming out, I tell you this because I am a reader before I am an author. I know you guys love reading just as much as I do, and I’d hate for you to miss out on some really awesome reads.

Thanks so much for stopping by Karen! For more information on her and her books you can find her here:

GIVEAWAY

As mentioned above, Karen is giving away three copies of IN THE STORM so if you'd like to be entered, please leave a comment on this post with a valid email address so I can contact you if you win. Giveaway will run through midnight EST on Tuesday, March 29th after which time winners will be chosen by Random.org and announced on the blog. Good luck everyone!

IN THE STORM (from Goodreads)

Abandoned by the world around her, Carly believes she is fated to a life of torment at the hands of her stepfather and is desperate for an escape. When she can bear the abuse no longer and gives in to a thunderous rage, she suddenly finds herself in an unfamiliar, yet beautiful, storm world. This limbo between dimensions appears to be her private sanctuary, but it may just be her purgatory.

No one escapes fate without sacrifice, but is the price more than Carly is willing to pay?

  1. I have read this book and it is really , really good:D I also just bought myself an E reader. Wonderful device:D It's just a Rank Arena cheapie but makes life alot easier. Today it did have trouble and froze when I loaded Die for Me by Amy Plum from Netgalley onto it as it was a bigger file, so a more expensive reader is probably ideal but I had only so many $$$ so I got what I could afford. One day I get a nice big 10"screen. But for now I have 6".

  3. I recently bought an E-Reader. I don't have much experience with Ebooks bit I agree that they are so much more cheaper!
In the Storm sounds like a great book!

  4. I am one of the hold outs to buying an e-reader. I still like my books, which I buy and then share with my students. With an e-reader I could not share the stories I love and this is my biggest reason to date why I still buy books.

Sadly, this will also keep me from reading Karen's book, which sounds like a story I would really enjoy.

  6. I love my e-reader! I do still read paperbacks (my TBR pile is huge and the library is still an addiction). One thing I found is that I am more willing to try a different genre when I don't have to pay store prices...:) Great post Karen!

  7. This sounds like a great book! I love my e-reader. I used it for all netgalley, galleygrab or any program for it. It has been a lifesaver since I don't have to use my iphone. But I still always by the book. The feel of books and smell drive me book crazy!

  8. I've yet to hear of this book, but I've come to know the value of an e-reader. While I've had to become more picky about those ebooks that I accept to review, this sounds brilliant :) Fab guest post and giveaway!

  9. Cool guest post and giveaway. I love my e-reader although I use it primarily to read NetGalley books. If I lived in a smaller town and didn't have access to so many books at my library, I would probably use the e-reader even more.

  10. (not entering) But growing up in a small town, I can tell you I would have killed for an ereader during the years I lived there. I think I read through my library twice and the trip to the big city only netted me a few new books!

    Great Guest Post!

  13. I really like my e-reader, reallyreallyreally like it. It saves room for traveling (especially since I'm juggling a 2 yo now) and I don't have to wait for books to make it to my local bookstore. That being said, I prefer physical books, I feel that reading is more of an experience that way.

  17. I agree! E-readers are great :-) I was very slow to convert (and I'll never completely give up my PBs) but I couldn't stand it when a book was getting rave reviews and I couldn't read it because it was only an e-book :-) Now, I read more e-bks than PBs.

  19. I am fond holding a book, but I've found it easy adapting to an e-reader, and my husband loves the saved space! It's definitely an advantage with traveling! This book sounds fascinating - please consider me for the giveaway! Thanks, Jenny & Karen!

  32. Over the last couple of days I have totally learned how awesome e-readers are! I don't know if it is just me, but I feel like I read e-books faster than I read hardcopy books?

Anyways, this story sounds really great!
