Resilient Blog Tour: Character Interview + Giveaway

Today I'm pleased to welcome Kyle, a character from Patricia Vanasse's new paranormal young adult novel Resilient, to the blog to answer a few questions as part of the book's promotional tour. CBB Book Promotions has put together a fantastic tour, so be sure and check the bottom of this post for not only details on an EPIC giveaway, but also the full list of participating blogs. Welcome to Supernatural Snark Kyle!

If you could choose any one of either Adam or Livia’s paranormal abilities, which would you most want for yourself?

I would take Adam’s ability to control people’s anger. As his ability develops, I’m sure he’ll be able to control not only their anger, but also their state of mind. Can you image being able to make someone feel, and do whatever you want them to?

Were your and Adam’s roles reversed and you possessed his gift, do you think you would have trusted him with the knowing of it as he did you?

Yes. Adam has been my best friend since I can remember; I would trust him with my life.

What’s something embarrassing you know about Adam that he wouldn’t want you sharing with Livia?

You know how Adam’s mom is best friends with Brianna’s mom right? So they had lots of play dates while growing up since their moms would hang out all the time. Brianna liked to dress up Adam with her princess clothes and put make up on him. Adam was a good friend and just let her do it. We have a picture of him at 9 years old looking like Sleeping Beauty. I don’t think he’d be happy if I were to share that with Livia.

You’ve lived on Whidbey Island your whole life. If you could choose one place in the world to visit, where would you want to go?

I would like to travel the whole world, but if I had to choose one place it would be Bora Bora. Have you seen pictures from that place? It’s paradise with perfect white sand beaches, overwater bungalows, and emerald-colored ocean water.

You and Matt play a lot of pool, sometimes for fun and sometimes for money. How much would you say you’ve won off him and he off you?

Matt is real good, but I’m better. Last year, Matt lost 500 bucks easily. He gets bored and then just gives up. I’d say I probably lost 200.

What are the first three words that went through your mind when you saw Livia in the vegetable aisle of the market the day you met?

Who’s that girl? Then I’m pretty sure my mouth dropped open.

If Adam were asked to describe the type of friend you are, what do you most hope he would say?

I hope he’d say I’m the type of friend who is irreplaceable. Someone he can trust and count on at anytime.

RESILIENT

Livia has never felt like she fits in. As normal as it sounds, Livia is anything but ordinary. She can feel every emotion of every single person around her, and it’s maddening. In pursuit of some psychic quiet, she moves with her family from New York City to Whidbey Island in the lush and sleepy Pacific Northwest. But when a horseback riding accident in her new home gives her a broken leg that heals in a day, she finds that another unexplainable ability has manifested, and her life isn’t about to get any easier.

Adam has no problem fitting in and making friends. In fact, he’s the top of the school, the boy everyone knows and loves. However, people only see what he allows them to. No one knows what Adam is truly capable of. After witnessing Livia’s accident, Adam sees something intriguing in her quick recovery, something that gives him hope that he’s not alone.

Adam is the only one whose emotions Livia can’t read. Afraid of not knowing what goes on behind his dark eyes, Livia decides to keep him at a distance. Yet the more she tries to ignore him, the more alluring he becomes, and while their personal quests for identity will inevitably bring them closer together, it is the confirmation of what they really are that threatens to tear them apart.

Resilient, told in alternating point of views, is a gripping story of survival and romance, in which two teenagers face the consequences of being anything but normal.

  3. Aww Kyle sounds like a great character. I would also love to be able to control someone else's feelings, his ability sounds a bit like Jasper's from Twilight. I always wished I could bring some calm in a room. Thanks for sharing this great guest post with us Jenny, the cover to Resilient is so pretty!

  4. Ooh, an ability to control anger. Now, that's pretty cool. And a little scary. At least we now have the image of him in princess dresses to balance it.

  9. I've never heard of this one before, but I love it when a book promises us a bit of sci-fi such as powers, as well as great character relationships. Thanks so much for sharing this one with us, Jenny!

  12. Great interview. I'm really interested in Adam's ability to control a person's anger. Reminds me of Jasper's ability in Twilight, which I always thought was fascinating.

  18. Manipulating people's emotions is equally fascinating and terrifying. Where do you draw the line and how far are you willing to go? Sounds like a great read. Looking forward to reading the book reviews throughout the tour.

  20. I've not heard of this book, but I'm definitely off to do more research. The ability to control other people's anger and emotions definitely intrigues me. As do horses and a small island in the Pacific Northwest. Have you read this one? Is it triangle-y? Love any input. But it sounds great!

  21. As always, fantastic interview, Jenny! I love character interviews because we really get to have a sense of each character's personality before reading the book. I think it would be frightening to be able to control other people's emotions!! I'm not sure I'd want that power. (Then again, I'm not sure I'd want ANY special/super power...)

  22. Love this interview! Kyle sounds like a great friend, but maybe Adam is better. Letting your childhood friend put makeup on you is a big concession for a boy. :-) Thanks for sharing, I'm so excited to read this!
