The Life After Series Blog Tour: Interview + Giveaway

I'm so excited to welcome author Katlyn Duncan back to the blog as part of the promotional tour for her paranormal young adult series, The Life After. Katlyn was nice enough to participate in the Big Love Letter Event a couple weeks ago, and today she's going to be answering some (hopefully) fun questions about Maggie, Jackson and the series as a whole. Be sure and check out the bottom of the post as well for all the details on an Amazon giveaway and the full list of participating blogs!

In Soul Taken, Maggie returns to the human world after a century-long absence. If there were another hundred-year gap before she returned again, what’s one small thing she would hope to see in that future?

Great question! I think as long as food wasn’t just a pill or freeze-dried she’d be happy.

It’s day one of your training with Jackson. What’s the first thing he would say to you after seeing a brief demonstration of the physical skills you possess?

“Good try, but we have a lot of work ahead of us.”

If you were to join the guard with Jackson and Maggie and could choose a paranormal entity (vampire, fae, shifter, etc) to partner with, which supernatural being would top your list?

Shifter, definitely.

Which was more difficult: Writing the first line of book one or the last line of book three?

Last line of Soul Betrayed. It’s easy for me to see the light at the end of the tunnel but to actually stop writing was hard.

Before she experienced it for herself, what one word might Maggie have used to describe her vision of what life after death would be like?

Maggie is unexpectedly catapulted into Ally’s body in Soul Taken and finds herself having to live another girl’s life for a time. Whose life, real person or fictional character, might you like to spend a day or week in?

I would love to be Jennifer Lawrence for a day/week. She seems to lead such a fun life and I think it would be unforgettable!

If you were to take all of your characters on a promotional book tour with you, who would be most excited to meet people and answer questions?

I think Ally would be most excited, Heather too. They are bubbly and love the attention.

Thanks for having me!

After-life just got a lot more complicated

Maggie is a Soul Collector. It’s her job to transport souls from the Living Realm to the After – but during a mission to find a stolen soul, she ends up stuck in a teen mean girl’s body.

Trapped, Maggie’s soul is catapulted into Ally’s life – and the human world she hasn’t experienced for one hundred years. But, as a descendant of the most powerful beings in the After, Maggie must rescue Ally before the girl’s soul dies…

To survive, Maggie must uncover devastating secrets – because with one soul taken by a terrifying enemy, Maggie’s could be next!

Life after Life

Now Maggie has been given the chance of her after-life to become a Guard, nothing will stand in her way. Not even the undeniable attraction she feels for her trainer and past love—Jackson. But when the battle between Shadowed and Guard begins again which side will she choose?

When her boss, Felix, partners Jackson and Maggie up with Ally and Cooper to investigate terrifying Shadowed activity, she doesn’t think it could get any worse. Jackson and Cooper barely tolerate each other and this time, Maggie isn’t just proving her loyalty to the Guard during one mission...she has a side mission too. One so secret and so dangerous she can’t tell a soul…

A Life for a Life

The battle between Shadowed and Guard has brought destruction and terror to Gate Seven and now Maggie wants revenge. As the only after-life being who can save the souls from ultimate death Maggie comes face to face with her own human body, preserved for a century, waiting for just this moment to arrive.

Yet, how far will Maggie go to exact her revenge on the Shadowed? And when she comes face to face with her past, how will she survive the onslaught of memories she thought long gone?

For when the truth comes out all is not what it seems and Maggie has finally run out of time... She must choose her destiny or watch all she has perish in the fight for her life!

Katlyn Duncan was born and raised in a small town in western Massachusetts. Her overactive imagination involved invisible friends, wanting to be a Disney Princess and making up her own stories. Her bibliophile mom always encouraged her love of reading and that stayed with her since. Even though she works full time in the medical field Katlyn has always made time for books, whether she is reading or writing them.

Katlyn now lives in southern Connecticut with her husband and adorable Wheaten Terrier and she is thrilled to finally share her stories with the world.

  2. This is a very good series about reapers. Love reading books about them. The last one I read is the Soul Screamers series. I'm looking forward to this series.

  3. That soul taken cover, seen it so many covers before, must be popular

  4. These covers really grab your attention. LOVE them.

    TY for the great interview.

  5. I've never heard of these books! Jenny, why must you keep adding to my already overwhelmed TBR?

  6. I've been meaning to pick up a book about reapers so maybe I'll just start here. :) I haven't heard of this series before so thanks for putting them on my radar, Jenny.

  9. I think Jennifer Lawrence is a good choice for being someone for a day! Wonderful interview Jenny!

  10. The covers for this series are stunning, especially that second one. I would think the first line of a book would be the hardest, but what do I know? Another outstanding interview, Jenny!

  11. This interview was so much fun Jenny! This is another series that I've not heard of before, but would definitely be interested in giving a go. Also how pretty are the covers!

  14. “Good try, but we have a lot of work ahead of us.”
LOL!! I don't even know if I'd get a "good try". Maybe a pat on a back and a "ooh, yeah. Let's not do that again."

  15. I love reading books about reapers and the afterlife. I just found this theme fascinating of how good and evil play out. Thanks for the giveaway.

  16. As always, your questions are so wonderful, Jenny! I bow to the interview queen! This series sound intriguing with the switching souls. I can't imagine living in the waking up a hundred years in the future and trying to fit in. It would be fascinating though. Lovely post, ladies! :)

  17. Lovely Interview! And even though I always was a Vampire Girl - I think I'd also take a Shifter as a partner - I think they are not as limited as Vamps:)

  18. Thanks so much for hosting me! I had a lot of fun with this interview :)
