The Life After Series Blog Tour: Interview + Giveaway

I'm so excited to welcome author Katlyn Duncan back to the blog as part of the promotional tour for her paranormal young adult series, The Life After. Katlyn was nice enough to participate in the Big Love Letter Event a couple weeks ago, and today she's going to be answering some (hopefully) fun questions about Maggie, Jackson and the series as a whole. In Soul Taken, Maggie returns to the human world after a century-long absence. If there were another hundred-year gap before she returned again, what’s one small thing she would hope to see in that future?

Great question! I think as long as food wasn’t just a pill or freeze-dried she’d be happy.

It’s day one of your training with Jackson. What’s the first thing he would say to you after seeing a brief demonstration of the physical skills you possess?

“Good try, but we have a lot of work ahead of us.”

If you were to join the guard with Jackson and Maggie and could choose a paranormal entity (vampire, fae, shifter, etc) to partner with, which supernatural being would top your list?

Shifter, definitely.

Which was more difficult: Writing the first line of book one or the last line of book three?

Last line of Soul Betrayed. It’s easy for me to see the light at the end of the tunnel but to actually stop writing was hard.

Before she experienced it for herself, what one word might Maggie have used to describe her vision of what life after death would be like?

Perfect.

Maggie is unexpectedly catapulted into Ally’s body in Soul Taken and finds herself having to live another girl’s life for a time. Whose life, real person or fictional character, might you like to spend a day or week in?

I would love to be Jennifer Lawrence for a day/week. She seems to lead such a fun life and I think it would be unforgettable!

If you were to take all of your characters on a promotional book tour with you, who would be most excited to meet people and answer questions?

I think Ally would be most excited, Heather too. They are bubbly and love the attention.

Katlyn Duncan was born and raised in a small town in western Massachusetts. Her overactive imagination involved invisible friends, wanting to be a Disney Princess and making up her own stories. Her bibliophile mom always encouraged her love of reading and that stayed with her since. Big Love Letter Event Bonus: Katlyn Duncan

First, I want to thank all of you who have been so closely following The Big Love Letter Event, the joint month-long feature hosted by Danny from Bewitched Bookworms and myself, we've been having an absolute blast! For today's bonus letter I have the pleasure of welcoming young adult author Katlyn Duncan to the blog to share a little something special written to Jackson, one of the characters from her Life After series. The last book in the trilogy, Soul Betrayed, just released this week from Carina UK, so I hope this letter has many of you desperately wanting to meet Jackson!

This is the first letter I've featured that's written from author to character rather than character to character, so I'm extremely excited to share something different with all of you. I hope you enjoy getting to know Jackson through Katlyn's eyes as much as I did!

Dear Jackson,

In a strange world I would be what they call your conscience. I made all of your decisions and forced them upon you. In the beginning you were terrible, selfish and one-dimensional. But after serious consideration I, your maker, made you into something more. Oh much more; to me, and those who had the fortune to connect with you in my novels. To some you were terrible and selfish, but given the opportunity to expand my works I was able to flesh you out and showcase that more that I knew about you.

This isn’t a typical love letter filled with romantic love, but one with a much deeper and different love than I could have ever imagined. I loved watching you grow through Maggie’s eyes. The dedication you had to her was one that literally spanned a century and even when all hope seemed to be lost, you carried on but never away from her. You took the criticism and blame like a champ and even when I made everyone against you, you looked up from the pages at me with those devastatingly gorgeous blue eyes and challenged me for more.

I don’t apologize for your story because it was the one that needed to be told. And even though I’m not a fortuneteller, I know we will meet again in the future. The world will know more of the dark, brooding antihero that I’ve come to love more than I ever thought possible.
