Waiting on Wednesday: Rush

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking The Spine and is a fun way to see what books other bloggers just can't wait to get their hands on!

The Game #1
Eve Silver
Young Adult
Katherine Tegen Books
Releases June 11th

From Goodreads:

So what’s the game now? This, or the life I used to know?

When Miki Jones is pulled from her life, pulled through time and space into some kind of game—her carefully controlled life spirals into chaos. In the game, she and a team of other teens are sent on missions to eliminate the Drau, terrifying and beautiful alien creatures. There are no practice runs, no training, and no way out. Miki has only the guidance of secretive but maddeningly attractive team leader Jackson Tate, who says the game isn’t really a game, that what Miki and her new teammates do now determines their survival, and the survival of every other person on this planet. She laughs. He doesn’t. And then the game takes a deadly and terrifying turn.

This synopsis reminds me a little bit of the movie The Running Man, and I can't even explain to you how much I love that movie. It's terrible. It also makes me absurdly happy. I have a feeling this book will make me equally happy, but without the "this is so bad it's good" aspect of the Arnold Schwarzenegger film. Plus, let's face it, I was sold on this one at the mention of a "maddeningly attractive team leader". Yes, that's all it takes. I'm easy ;-)

  1. Haven't watched that movie before. I like the promise of romance, action, and science fiction, though I generally don't like it when the synopsis describes the romantic interest in any way (i.e. mysterious, enigmatic, mercurial, maddeningly attractive :P). Still, great choice, and this book is definitely on my most anticipated of 2013 list :).

  2. I LOVE The Running Man! Oh, this is so going on my list.
I won't be able to think of it any other way, now. I'm easy, too though I'm afraid of what the Drau really are.
What if they are the only chance for the world to survive? I've got until June to worry about this, great!

    Love your pick!

  4. Oh my gosh Jenny, before I read your comment, I was going to say the exact same thing The Running Man, was one of my all time favourite childhood films, I know when all us kids had nothing better to do we sat in front of a television and watched Arnold Schwarzenegger films! I hope that I end up loving this book too, I've set my hopes up now, especially with the mention of a maddeningly attractive team leader! Reminds me a bit of Four! Thanks for putting this on my radar! :)
