This weeks question: Do you judge a book by it's cover?
Why yes, yes I do. I can't help it! Part of it is the graphic designer in me, if the cover is just spectacularly awful, I can't bring myself to spend money on it. I know I should read the blurb, see if it has an interesting premise, but sometimes I just can't get past the design. It works the opposite way sometimes too, where if the book has a gorgeous cover I buy it just because it grabbed my attention. So, in that way at least, I'm an equal-opportunity cover critiquer;)

:) I like my covers with bold colors and uncluttered and I need to know what I'm looking at. If I can't tell, I don't bother looking at the blurb. I'm trying hard not to judge though. Hope you have a great weekend !!

I think eye catching books have a lot to do with actually buying the book. If the cover doesn't appeal to me then I don't bother reading the synopsis most of hte time.

ReplyDeleteI'll still buy a book with a bad cover if the story just sounds *too* interesting... but it makes me always want to write the publisher and let them know they're losing sales due to lameness of cover
We all know I'm a self-professed cover slut haha pardon my language, of course :)

ReplyDeleteOne cover I've seen was badly Photoshopped. The girl's head (from another image because I've seen it on another cover) didn't quite fit the body. The hands were really awkwardly sized and placed too.
