Shadowfever (Fever Series #5)
Karen Marie Moning
Urban Fantasy
January 18th, 2011
From Goodreads:
MacKayla Lane was just a child when she and her sister, Alina were given up for adoption and banished from Ireland forever. Twenty years later, Alina is dead and Mac has returned to the country that expelled them to hunt her sister's murderer. But after discovering that she descends from a bloodline both gifted and cursed, Mac is plunged into a secret history: an ancient conflict between humans and immortals that have lived concealed among us for thousands of years. What follows is a shocking chain of events with devastating consequences, and now Mac struggles to cope with grief, while continuing her mission to acquire and control the Sinsar Dubh--a book of dark, forbidden magic scribed by the mythical Unseelie King that contains the power to create and destroy worlds.
In an epic battle between humans and Fae, the hunter becomes the hunted when the Sinsar Dubh turns on Mac, and begins mowing a deadly path through those she loves. Who can she turn to? Who can she trust? Who is the woman that haunts her dreams? More importantly, who is Mac and what is the destiny she glimpses in the black and crimson designs of an ancient tarot card? From the luxury of the Lord Master's penthouse, to the sordid depths of an Unseelie nightclub, from the erotic bed of her lover, to the terrifying bed of the Unseelie King, Mac's journey will force her to face the truth of her exile, and make a choice that will either save the world...or destroy it.
This is one of the most deliciously frustrating series I've ever read. Book 4 ended with a spectacular cliffhanger, and Ms. Moning's monthly newsletters with teasers from this final book are going to give me a stress-induced ulcer if I don't find out all about Mac and Barrons soon! If you haven't read this series yet and you are a fan of Urban Fantasy, add it to your list immediately!
Stressed-induced ulcer is right Jenny! I am loving the teasers, but they are driving me crazy! I just want to know what or who Barrons is. And if there will be another Chapter 4. Please Book Gods I am begging you for another Chapter 4!
ReplyDeleteI love this cover! I actually bought the first 4 so I could read them :)
ReplyDeleteYour musings about this book made me laugh. Hang in there, you can do it! LOL...Sounds like a really good series. Thanks for sharing. I love the look of your site by the way. The color scheme is fantastic. Love the books in your site bar. We have similar tastes. I've got to follow you to keep up!
ReplyDeleteThere had better be a HEA for Barrons and Mac or I am throwing the book across the room-for reals. I think I'll have to take a few vacay days for when this book finally comes out.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah !!! Counting the days done to when I finally have it in my hands. I'm turning my cell phone off for this one. Excellent recommend!!
ReplyDeleteHere's my WOW
I adore Karen Marie Moning and have been following her career since the beginning. I have had to wait for each Fever book and while I adore them, it is always frustrating to wait, especially the way she leaves you hanging after each book. I can't wait for book 5.
ReplyDeleteYou're right about those teasers! I have a love/hate relationship with them. I look forward to them every month but then I hate all the speculation and not knowing that comes along with it. And the fact that we won't get our fix until January makes the teasers even worse! This book can't come out soon enough. I'm already planning on taking that day off so that I can start reading it immediately!
ReplyDeleteI NEED this book. OMG..can't wait!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds so so good! Great pick :)
ReplyDeleteSo glad I'm not alone in my pining for this book. I think I'm going to have to take one day off of work to read on the 18th and then an entire week off to recover from whatever is going to happen:)
ReplyDeletei like the steampunk-esque cover! is the book steampunk also?
ReplyDeleteCarrie - No, this series is Urban Fantasy with a little romance thrown in, and it focuses on the the many types of fae. It's a great series, absolutely addicting:)
ReplyDeleteI def think I'll have to re-read the previous books before I read this one. There's so much to remember in this series and it's been forever since I've read the earlier books!
ReplyDeleteI have said it before and I will keep saying it until January - the cliff-hanger of book 4 was the MOST EVOL ending to a book EVER!!! Really KMM is a genius, in what she's done with this series. Especially feeding us parts of Shadowfever every month, and the specific excerpts she is feeding us are DOUBLE EVOL!!! I am more than freaking out over the fact that it is Urban Fantasy and there are no guarantees of an HEA... I think Mandi over at Smexybooks said - I don't care if he's the devil himself just as long as we get our HEA and I could not agree with her more!! :P
ReplyDeleteSounds like such an exciting book! I love those. Anyways, great pick!
ReplyDeleteThey say this is the final book in the series so one thing (and one thing only) will make or break this book for me - who or what is Barrons?
ReplyDeleteThe story can be great but if the series ends without answering that question, I'll be totally distraught.
Of course, I'll buy the book anyway because the cover looks awesome.
