Waiting on Wednesday: Exquisite Captive

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking The Spine and is a fun way to see what books other bloggers just can't wait to get their hands on!

Dark Caravan Cycle #1
Heather Demetrios
Young Adult/Fantasy
Releases October 7th from Balzer + Bray

From Goodreads:

Forced to obey her master.
Compelled to help her enemy.
Determined to free herself.

Nalia is a jinni of tremendous ancient power, the only survivor of a coup that killed nearly everyone she loved. Stuffed into a bottle and sold by a slave trader, she’s now in hiding on the dark caravan, the lucrative jinni slave trade between Arjinna and Earth, where jinn are forced to grant wishes and obey their human masters’ every command. She’d give almost anything to be free of the golden shackles that bind her to Malek, her handsome, cruel master, and his lavish Hollywood lifestyle.

Enter Raif, the enigmatic leader of Arjinna’s revolution and Nalia’s sworn enemy. He promises to free Nalia from her master so that she can return to her ravaged homeland and free her imprisoned brother—all for an unbearably high price. Nalia’s not sure she can trust him, but Raif’s her only hope of escape. With her enemies on the hunt, Earth has become more perilous than ever for Nalia. There’s just one catch: for Raif’s unbinding magic to work, Nalia must gain possession of her bottle…and convince the dangerously persuasive Malek that she truly loves him. Battling a dark past and harboring a terrible secret, Nalia soon realizes her freedom may come at a price too terrible to pay: but how far is she willing to go for it?

Inspired by Arabian Nights, EXQUISITE CAPTIVE brings to life a deliciously seductive world where a wish can be a curse and shadows are sometimes safer than the light.

Um. All I can really say about this book is YES PLEASE! I don't know much about the Arabian Nights story, so I'm really looking forward to that particular aspect of this book, and of course I'm always intrigued by the mention of a handsome, cruel man. I find myself sickly fascinated by such characters, spending majority of the book looking for the tiniest of hints to indicate they are more than they appear to be and will be redeemed in all their romantic glory by the end. Most of the time I'm simply delusional in my romantic idealism, but I have so much fun wishing for the bad guy to turn into a love interest that I don't even care. I embrace the delusion fully:)

Way to digress there, Jenny! Anyway, I can't wait to fixate on Malek and see if he turns out to be worthy of my affection or if Raif will prove to be the more appealing of the two:)

  4. Hah Jenny I am the same, I'm always rooting for the handsome cruel man, Barrons has always been one of my favourites, and I've been luck to meet a couple of more since. This book sounds amazing, I really can't wait to meet Raif and Malek (I have a feeling Raif will be able to win me over, why do guys with the name Rafa or Raffe, have a tendency to do so? ;)

    1. YES JASPRIT! I got kind of a Barron vibe off Malek in the synopsis, so I can't wait to see what he's like in this book:)

  5. I guess that I'm a glass-half-full kind of girl and I do hope the "bad" guys (and girls) gain some redemption or have some redeeming factor to them. This one definitely intrigues!

  6. This sounds very interesting, though I'm a bit on the fence about it... I'll probably be waiting to hear what you think of it before adding it to the TBR list, though!

  9. Jenny, I can't wait to read this book either.

So wait are you rooting for Malek then? WHY? Don't you like the sound of the enigmatic Raif better? It does seem like Raif is the love interest from the blurb and that Nalia only pretends to like Malek. I may be wrong though!

Anyways, I hope this lives up to your expectations, Jenny and if you haven't read Something Real by Heather Demetrios, do it right away!! Her writing is so lovely and you will love Patrick. :)
    Great pick!

    1. I can't help it Nick! There's something about Malek in the synopsis that has me kind of rooting for him to not be as cruel as we're supposed to think he is, and when she tries this whole "pretend" love thing, maybe she'll get more than she bargained for ;-)

I've yet to hear of this one before, but Nalia and Malek's characters sound potent and powerful...MUST READ. Great pick this week!
