Waiting on Wednesday: Sublime

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking The Spine and is a fun way to see what books other bloggers just can't wait to get their hands on!

Christina Lauren
Paranormal Young Adult
Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers
Releases October 14th

From Goodreads:

When Lucy walks out of a frozen forest, wearing only a silk dress and sandals, she isn’t sure how she got there. But when she sees Colin, she knows for sure that she’s here for him.

Colin has never been captivated by a girl the way he is by Lucy. With each passing day their lives intertwine, and even as Lucy begins to remember more of her life—and her death—neither of them is willing to give up what they have, no matter how impossible it is. And when Colin finds a way to physically be with Lucy, taking himself to the brink of death where his reality and Lucy’s overlap, the joy of being together for those brief stolen moments drowns out everything in the outside world. But some lines weren’t meant to be crossed…

Normally romances wherein one person is alive and the other dead are a bit of a struggle for me, but I can't help but be intrigued by this one. Maybe it's the frozen forest she walks out of (why's it frozen?) or the fact that she's all beautifully and wildly white on the cover (why doesn't my pasty whiteness look as gorgeous as hers?), but I feel the need to find out what happened to Lucy and whether or not she and Colin can cross the lines mentioned above to beat the odds. They're like a little semi-dead underdog couple and I'm rooting for them, dammit!

  1. You know, this cover creeps me out, but I think it's in the best possible way. I love how it sounds like a real tie-in to the plot, which sounds like it might just be something I must have. Semi-dead love? Count me in!

    1. Right? It's super creepy, but so pretty at the same time and I just want to clutch it to my chest and call it My Precious.

    1. ME TOO KRYSTIANNA!!! I was sold on this one just based on the cover:)

  3. I don't usually go in for the ghost romances either, but I do have to agree with you that there's just something about this one that is calling me! I'll be curious to read some early reviews for it to see what people are thinking about it. Heh, rooting for a semi-dead underdog couple should be the book's tagline!

    1. Isn't there. I'm sensing there's so much more to this one than a ghostly romance, and I really want to know what that more is!

  4. I'm also excited for this one! And I just LOVE that cover. The ghost romance aspect sounds intriguing, too. Great pick! :)

  5. *sees the cover* OHHHH, WHAT IS THIS GIRL? :O IS SHE DEAD? :O *reads the synopsis* OHHHH SHE IS? I'm a little concerned about the fact that he'll brink himself to the brink of death. Um, no, Colin! But as a whole I love the sound of this. Gorgeous cover! Such a great pick, Jenny!!

    1. Yes, his almost-killing himself is alarming, but it just makes me want to dive in there and see what it is about her that would make him willing to do such a thing. And why she would let him:)

  6. I'm the same about romances between one dead and one alive person but this one seems more sinister and it really draws me in. So intriguing! Thanks for sharing :)

  9. I agree with Melissa, this cover creeps me out even though it's also very intriguing!
And you know, we should embrace our paleness, even if we don't look half as hauntingly stunning as the lady in the cover! (Maybe being frozen iced dead looks well only in a select few!) ;)
Great pick, Jenny! Will be keeping an eye to see what you think of it!

    1. I think you're right Pili. Being frozen iced dead is clearly something only a few people can pull off. I'm not one of those people, so I'll stick with looking pale and alive I guess. *dramatic sigh*

  10. I have never heard of this one. It does sound creepy and unique (semi-dead??). I'll be adding this to my TBR list. Oh, and that cover is extremely eye-catching.

    1. Hehe semi-dead. She's clearly not all the way dead, so I'm going with semi-dead for her:)

  11. I loooove that cover and your comment about the semi-dead underdog couple is so true because now I'm rooting for them as well! I really hope this doesn't become a love triangle, but the synopsis seems promising and I'm certainly looking forward to seeing this story unfold. Thanks for putting this on my radar, Jenny!(:

    1. Please, please no love triangle. There's not mention of another guy in the synopsis and there's only 2 people on the cover, so I'm hoping that bodes well for a 2-person relationship:):)

  12. Hee hee! You had me at "They're like a little semi-dead underdog couple and I'm rooting for them, dammit." I do LOVE this cover and want the book almost for that alone (I know-wrong) But, I'm with you Jenny, I'm so curious about this couple and why she is so white like death and Winter. Great pick! :)

    1. Heh. I am though! They have some serious obstacles they're facing, and you know me and HEAs, so I desperately want them to have one!

Me too, Jenny! It's why I didn't request this one when it became available, but that cover is so pretty and the book sounds so romantic. I might cave in, but I need to know that there's an HEA with both of them alive first!

    1. *high five Nick* I'll flip straight to the end of this one (as I do) and let you know what kind of HEA situation we're looking at:)

  15. This book is so intriguing. A girl who's dead and a boy who will "kill" himself just to be with her? Sounds morbid but I like it. And look at that cover!! I simply cannot resist so I will definitely add this to my ever-growing TBR. :)

  16. This cover totally creeps me out (maybe it's supposed to?). And, yeah, why can't my pastiness be all sparkly and shiny like hers?

  17. Somewhat eerie cover! But I can't look away...

Seems like an interesting concept! Hopefully it's well written.

    Fabulous choice!

  20. The cover for this one is just stunning. I think I am going to have to read this one.

  21. I don't usually go for this type of romance either but I have to admit that like you something is drawing me in here! The frozen forest is definitely intriguing and dammit I'm also rooting for their star-crossed underdog romance. And I LOL-ed at your pasty whiteness comment. I wish my paleness looked that good too ;-D Awesome pick Jenny ^^

  22. Oh I had no idea that Lauren is writing a new book. I still haven't read that well know series of hers but I'm planing to. Anyhow this sounds really interesting and really why is the forest frozen? I need to know. Great pick, Jenny :)

  23. Oh like the look and the sound of this one. I'm with you... so curious about this one!!

  24. That cover is definitely striking and I'm intrigued to see how this ghost love story pans out.

  25. This cover is so stunning. It's creepy, but pretty awesome, to me. And the synopsis is exciting. Fabulous pick, Jenny!

  26. That is a GREAT cover! And it sounds really good too!

  27. I was really excited for this one, but I didn't really enjoy it! It was a basic paranormal romance book with not much depth, blech. I hope you enjoy it more!

  28. I can't wait to read this! I love the cover and I really enjoyed their adult books, so I am excited to get my hands on this one. Great choice for WoW!

  29. EXACTLY this: "Normally romances wherein one person is alive and the other dead are a bit of a struggle for me." That's why I'm very hesitant to pick this up. Even though the concept is intriguing. I will let you read this and tell me how it goes. Dead/living romances never go well because there's usually no way for the two to be together in the end. You know I like my HEAs. My kids would be all over the "frozen" concept though. HAHA.
